About "The Barber of Seville in Texas"

"The Barber of Seville in Texas": Bilingual Retelling of Classic Comic Opera

Based on Gioachino Rossini's popular Italian opera, "The Barber of Seville in Texas" is an updated romp performed in both English and Spanish. This classic comic tale has an easy-to-follow premise - the dashing Count Almaviva loves Rosina and she loves him - but Fort Worth Opera gives it a Texas twist. The two lovers can't communicate because they speak different languages, and so the Count enlists the help of the town's trusted, bilingual barber Figaro, who ends up creating hilarious mayhem in his attempt to save the day. Featuring singing in both English and Spanish, traditional vaquero costuming and sets and a cast of engaging young artists, this 45-minute production proves that when it comes to the magic of opera, there's no such thing as a language barrier.
