About Mardi Gras Gala Masquerade Bal: Dallas Mardi Gras...It's a Zoo
Saxophonist, DAVID CARR, JR. has pursued his passion as an artist since he was 12 years old. As a self-taught and prolific player by ear, DAVID writes and produces his soulful melodies in his own studio. His refreshing new blend of contemporary jazz, combined with a R&B/Funk flair, has earned him a reputation and sound which separates him from many other saxophonists of today. Coupled with his provocative stage presence and innovative sounds, his smooth, yet rhythmic sound, has been compared with such greats as Grover Washington, Jr. and David Sanborn.
DAVID performs as a solo artist, as well as, with his band. DAVID’s performances are largely comprised from corporate & charity events, weddings and/or private parties, JAZZ concerts and music festivals—both in and outside of the US. Combining his many years of experience, along with his raw talent, profoundly reinforces that DAVID CARR, JR. has become a rare commodity.
Adding to the already long list of performances in DAVID’s musical career, both here in the U.S. and abroad, DAVID and his band debuted in New Orleans as the headlining band for the 2002 NFL "VIP & CELEBRITY" Super Bowl Party held at The Aquarium. In November 2003, David and his band also debuted at the prestigious Venetian Room at The Fairmont Hotel, Dallas, for their grand re-opening, as well as, New Year’s Eve, 2003. DAVID and his band have also graced the stage for "The Nana Bar" atop the elegant Wyndham Anatole Hotel also in Dallas. Finishing off the year, 2006, David and his band were invited to perform for The Margarita Ball at the Adam’s Mark Hotel in Dallas, a very well supported annual fundraiser benefiting children charities. Both DAVID and his band have been invited back for a return performance at this year’s 2007 Ball.
As a young boy, DAVID’s commitment to a "drug free" life has earned him the credibility, respect and recognition as a true “artist” throughout his career. In consideration of these attributes, DAVID’s participation in outreach programs benefiting the children and young adults of today is not only an inspiration for many, but also a rewarding experience as well. Among the many local agencies that DAVID has worked with throughout the years, The Collin County Children’s Advocacy Center comes to mind and has a special place at the top. MDA, MEALS ON WHEELS, THE HEART ASSOCIATION, THE DOWN SYNDROME GUILD OF DALLAS and THE HOLT INTERNATIONAL CHILDREN’S SERVICES all fall in sequence, as well.
DAVID’s newest community involvement has been with Child Advocate, Mark Klaas (http://www.klaaskids.org/) and "Our Garden of Angels", a support group whose mission is to prevent violent abuse to men, women and children, as well as, comfort and guide those left behind after losing a loved one from the violent act of murder. (Hear David’s song, Sounds of Innosense, the official theme song for "The Garden", on their website: http://www.ourgardenofangels.org/.
Some say, "It’s the spirit behind the music that endears DAVID to his fans. Sophistication, refinement, charisma, passion and charm—the artist and his music—an inseparable and incomparable thin line." This might explain why all 3 of DAVID’s saxophones (alto, tenor, & soprano) were presented to him on stage as surprise birthday gifts from his loyal and devoted fans.
DAVID's HALF A C NOTE, released in July, 2010 for David's 50th Birthday includes the song Sunset, a long awaited song release co-written with David's long time friend and keyboardest, Laurence Lee. In 2008, just in time for Valentine's day, David released Sax@Midnight: Music for Lovers, meant to be shared with your true love. The beautiful ballads on Sax@Midnight: Music for Lovers are sensuous, passionate, and a romantic triumph. DAVID embraces the warmth and emotion of the holiday season, by capturing it’s essence with, Holiday Melodies Embraced released for the 2008 holiday season. Also in 2008, DAVID released Who's In There?, a "Chill" album with a more ethereal form, somewhat enigmatic and a departure from his usual style of music. DAVID’s fourth CD, Grammy nominated DCJ4, was released in July, 2007, accompanied by a video. He released his third CD, I Thought You Knew, in January, 2006. With a diversified, free form style on this CD, DAVID created an edge to his music that can only be expressed by DAVID himself. DAVID’s second commercial release, In Too Deep, a double-CD set, debuted on March 19, 2003, at Market Hall in Dallas. In 1997, he debuted his pre-release Limited Edition In Too Deep CD from the double-CD set, In Too Deep. Sounds of Innosense was his first commercial release in 1995.
