About The Dear Hunter
The Dear Hunter, featuring multi-instrumentalist, vocalist and songwriter Casey Crescenzo, will release their highly anticipated album Migrant on April 2, 2013. The full-length album will be the band's first release on Cave & Canary Goods - Crescenzo's imprint label within Equal Vision Records.
The band's first North American tour in support of the new album, An Evening with The Dear Hunter, will kick off on March 12 in Scottsdale, AZ and will bring the band through SXSW as an official performer. Naive Thieves will join The Dear Hunter on the road as a special guest.
On the upcoming tour, fans can expect the most diverse offering of songs the band has ever performed in a single show. Crescenzo explains, "In the past, due to the
time constraints we faced on stage, we focused very narrowly on representing whichever record we were currently promoting. The time is finally right to represent the vastness of the band's discography, and to give longtime fans something special. There are a great deal of songs we haven't played in years, and a few we have never played. We hope everyone is as excited as we are."
The Dear Hunter recorded Migrant earlier this year at Vu Du Studios in Long Island, NY with producer Mike Watts, after almost two years supporting their critically acclaimed 2.5 hour, 9 EP, 36-track collection: The Color Spectrum. Soon after the
release of the impressive musical anthology, the band performed at the renowned COACHELLA festival, toured with the likes of Manchester Orchestra, Circa Survive and Coheed and Cambria, and hosted a special performance of The Color Spectrum from start to finish in Boston, MA. The entire one-night-only event was filmed and and is set to be released as a DVD on March 12, 2013.
Prior to The Color Spectrum, The Dear Hunter also embarked on another concept project – a six album series chronicling the story of a boy at the turn of the century only referred to as "The Dear Hunter" (Acts I – III currently released). While Migrant
takes a departure from the band's previous use of an overarching concept, it remains true to their signature grandiose sound, fueled by Crescenzo's soulful vocals.
"When I started writing this record, I made sure to limit myself to an instrument and my voice. I didn't want to jump into the current of production I always had before - predetermining the final path of each song from its inception. Instead, I let the music take as natural a course as it could," Crescenzo explains of the process. "What felt at first to be the seeds of the starkest songs, grew into some of the most lush and beautiful arrangements I had written to date. Keeping the heart of the music so transparent was liberating, and the result is, at the very least, the most creatively rewarding record yet."
For the first time ever, Crescenzo wrote from a first-person perspective, creating twelve of his most emotionally raw, personal and dynamic tracks to date. Musically, songs range from powerful melodic anthems, to a jazzy ballad fueled by keys and arpeggio-laden guitar lines, to a moving duet that highlights the song's captivating vocals, all delicately framed by lush string orchestrations.
