About Sara Hickman Duo
Sara is an Official State Musician of Texas. She served from May 2010-May 2011, as decreed by the Texas State Legislature. Currently she is working on material for what will be her 12th major CD to be released in summer of 2012. She's a loving mom and wife.
Here's what happened along the way:
May 2011: In honor of her role as State Musician, Sara wanted to give back to her home state. In May she released "The Best of Times", a compilation CD of her songs recorded by other amazing Texas musicians, including Willie Nelson, Marcia Ball, Shawn Colvin, Edie Brickell & New Bohemians, Ruthie Foster and 25 other musical acts. All proceeds go to Theatre Action Project; a group that goes out and helps put art, music and theatre back into public schools. She's been performing with her kid friendly trio, Family Time Rocks!, who's motto is "families that to create together, do great together!" Sara's produced a CD for FTR! that came out in September 2010 as a free download for families, thanks to the support of HEB.
May 2010: Sara released "Absence of Blame," her most recent CD, which includes 13 songs of sorrow and redemption. She put out an animated DVD for children entitled, "Big Kid, Little Kid" (which immediately won Dr. Toy's award for Best Summer Vacation item), and produced "Sweet Songs", a collection of Austin female musicians singing songs for families, with all proceeds benefiting the Mothers' Milk Bank.
2008: Sara toured her self-produced double disc CD "Motherlode." She also co-produced a year-long event with the Texas Coalition to Abolish the Death Penalty (TCADP) in which she visited a different Texas city each month with "Music For Life." The tour brought speakers and musicians together to start the dialogue on the death penalty in the state of Texas. She also plans to release a documentary on the tour.
1998: Sara donated over $50,000 from the sale of her CD "Newborn" to the Hill Country Youth Ranch in Ingram, TX, which works with abused and neglected children, then releasing two more children's CDs, "Toddler" and "Big Kid" in 2000 and 2004.
Sara has been on major labels and indie labels. She's twice been a guest of NBC's "The Tonight Show"; produced over 15 albums (for adults and children); appeared numerous times on VH-1 (including her own special, "In Your Face"); runs her own record label called Sleeveless and has won numerous awards for her music and humanitarian involvement, including first place in the USA Film Festival for her self-produced independent video, "Joy." She is on the roster of the International Speaker's Bureau, where she relishes delivering positive, inspiring keynote speech's; she created a teen band called Super Pal Universe (that performed at ACL Festival and SXSW, created an album and a TV pilot) and has sung on a variety of commercials: Daisy Sour Cream, Wal-Mart, Southwest Airlines. You know how it goes. Thanks for reading!
