About Salim Nourallah, Alex Dezen, Billy Harvey
If a Beatle was left in the desert at age 3 and raised in El Paso, Texas, you'd have Salim Nourallah…
Salim is a North Texas music scene fixture. After gaining initial acclaim with the Denton-based Nourallah Brothers he's gone on to release a half dozen solo albums and produce a fine list of many others (including the Old 97s, Rhett Miller, Deathray Davies & the Damnwells). His solo debut Polaroid (2004) was met with reviews like this one:"discovering a singer-songwriter who can stop time is rare, but Salim Nourallah is such a find…" (Rolling Stone). Beautiful Noise followed in 2006 to more critical acclaim and Salim swept the Dallas Observer music awards with Best Album/Best Song and Best Producer. Salim went on to win 7 consecutive Observer Awards for Best Producer. His 5th solo cd, Hit Parade, was released in April 2012 by the German indie label, Tapete Records. Hit Parade garnered more favorable press like "Coupling catchy rock with mature but not old lyrics, Nourallah has assembled the best album of his career…" He most recently released the album 'Skeleton Closet' in 2014.
Alex Dezen is the lead singer and songwriter for the American rock and roll band The Damnwells. He is also a multi-platinum selling songwriter. He holds an MFA degree in English from The University of Iowa's Iowa Writers' Workshop, which he attended from 2008-2010, and has since released songs with artists such as Justin Bieber, Matt Hires, Court Yard Hounds, Cody Simpson, and others. He has also written for and worked with a number of additional artist such as The Dixie Chicks, Dave Grohl, Gary Louris of The Jayhawks, Sara Bareilles, Jason Derulo, Christina Perri, Genevieve Schatz of Company of Thieves, Kelly Clarkson, Simple Plan, Jesse & Joy and many others. As a guitar player and singer, he has performed on albums for such artists as Cody Simpson, Matt Hires, Stoney LaRue, and Justin Bieber. He's currently signed to Warner Chappell Music Publishing.
Over the years Billy Harvey has been playing his own brand of Post Modern Pop, working not only as an artist but also as a producer (Charlie Mars, Bob Schneider, Slaid Cleaves, and Steve Poltz are among his credits). A prolific writer, he has been the recipient of the International Songwriters Award for Best Rock Song "Frozen Through", and broke into the Top 100 on the CMJ Charts with his 2007 release "Bearsick". This caffeine-addled do-it-yourselfer has also been quietly directing, animating, and editing the accompanying music videos to his records. In February 2008 he shot and directed a documentary film entitled "EVERYWHERE NOW". Filmed entirely on his laptop camera, Harvey intimately chronicles a 7000 mile plus tour in a car powered by waste vegetable oil. From crossing the continental divide on a sheet of ice to digging through oil dumpsters in the freezing cold, what follows is a near epic journey of endurance and self-discovery that is both sublime and at times harrowing. Harvey's latest release "The Everlasting War" plays like a love letter… to a girl… to himself…ultimately to us as we are invited to participate in the clear honesty of the music. This record teems with raw emotion and heartfelt sentiment so succinct it is impossible not to be affected by it. It Standout tracks include "Blind Man's Bike", "Heading for the Hills" (featured in ABC's Private Practice), and "Let This Be The Day". Billy's website has won various media and internet awards including the Interactive Design Award at South By Southwest and the Flash Forward award in NYC. Please visit it here… www.billyharvey.com
