About My Grandfather Would Have Shot Me by Jennifer Teege

Author Jennifer Teege in conversation with Dr. Sara Abosch, Dallas Holocaust Museum/Center for Education and Tolerance

When Jennifer Teege, a German-Nigerian woman, plucked a library book from the shelf at age 38, she had no idea her life would be forever changed. Recognizing photos of her mother and grandmother in the book, she discovered a horrifying fact: her grandfather was Amon Goeth, the Nazi commandant chillingly depicted by Ralph Fiennes in Schindler’s List – a man reviled the world over.

Long before knowing the truth, Teege moved to Tel Aviv in her 20s, became fluent in Hebrew, and received a degree from Tel Aviv University in Middle Eastern and African studies. There she watched Schindler’s List for the first time, not knowing the connection. Join us to hear her fascinating story.
