About John Dosher
John E Dosher, a native of Shreveport, Louisiana, began his professional career on a road trip to New Orleans at the age of 15 by acquiring a steady gig with the house band at the now defunct Gunga Den on Bourbon Street. That was quite an awakening for a fifteen year old boy!
A couple of years later, after returning to Shreveport and playing with a variety of rock, country, and jazz bands Johnny D, as he had begun to be called, began performing on the infamous Bossier City strip, touring regionally with a popular band known as “The Family Tree”, and contributing his musical vision on many studio sessions.
After moving to the Dallas-Fort Worth, TX area in 1978 John E Dosher finds himself and fellow musical friends Deanna Winter (Vocals and Tambourine) and Mark Mills (Vocals and Guitar) forming the band, “Winterflight.” While touring extensively around Texas to enthusiastic audiences, as fate and circumstance would have it in those days, they didn’t have the opportunity to release an album.
In the early 1980’s Johnny D left Winterflight and began performing solo gigs in restaurants and piano bars as well as recording as a studio musician for many local and regional artists. He also formed the 12 piece show band Johnny D and the Doowopps that still performs regularly in the DFW area at big events and private parties.
During all of those years, John E Dosher continued writing, and polishing his own sound, style and stage presence that has attracted a growing cult following. Audiences love his original music and eclectic takes on popular classics, all a polished blend of ragtime, rock & roll, gospel, blues, and zydeco. Between his music, friendly chatter, and folksy stories about life, adventures, and songs, it’s non-stop entertainment.
