"Calvin Berger": Musical Adaptation of "Cyrano de Bergerac" Set in a High School

With its themes of unrequited love, physical insecurity and plagiarism, it's almost shocking that "Cyrano de Bergerac" wasn't set in a high school to begin with. Well, this "oversight" has now been gloriously corrected with "Calvin Berger", a hip and hilarious musical adaptation of the French classic from lyricist-composer Barry Wyner. Contemporary high school senior Calvin (Cyrano) is smitten with the beautiful Rosanna (Roxanne), but his insecurity about the size of his schnoz keeps him from openly declaring his love. Meanwhile, Rosanna is attracted to Matt who, while interested, is unable to express it. Hijinks commence as Calvin offers to be Matt's "speech writer" to get closer closer to Rosanna, even as he ignores signals from another interested girl (who's also his best friend). Deception and desire mix in this fresh, funny and smart musical starring the talented teen actors of Art Centre Theatre.
