On April 20, 2010, the Deepwater Horizon oil rig exploded in the Gulf of Mexico in a blaze of fire that could be seen 35 miles away, killing 11 workers, injuring many more and causing the worst oil spill in American history. “The Great Invisible” is the first comprehensive overview of the incident and its aftermath,” states Rotten Tomatoes.
“The spill, the worse in American history, dumped millions of gallons of oil into the Gulf and the Atlantic Ocean for three months, seriously damaging the eco system and shutting down the local fishing industry.
“The film is directed by Peabody Award-winning Margaret Brown who gained the trust of industry leaders to local fishermen and spent four years traveling to small towns and major cities around the Gulf in Louisiana and Texas, talking to those affected. These are the stories by those most affected. Brown won the grand jury prize in the documentary feature category at 2014 SXSW Film Awards,
“Together, their testimony adds up to a damning portrait of an industry whose lack of government oversight led to unthinkable catastrophe - a lack of oversight that has not changed, despite the widespread outrage at the time,” observes Rotten Tomatoes. https://youtu.be/LDw1budbZpQ http://www.firsttuesdayfilms.org/images/great_invisible.jpg
