"Fellowship!": A Musical Parody of "The Fellowship of the The Ring"

With Bilbo Baggins reimagined as an aging Jewish comedian and the Elven city of Rivendell transformed into a Scientologist stronghold, cult musical "Fellowship!" turns J.R.R. Tolkein's Middle Earth on its ear. In this Broadway-style production at Dallas' Theatre Too, fantasy fans will see all their favorite characters from "The Lord Of The Rings" movies, but with one big change -- they're funny. This sendup -- written by Joel McCrary and Kelly Bashar -- features 12 original songs by Allen Simpson, including the over-the-top opening number featuring barefooted tap-dancing Hobbits to an elf-on-human '80s power ballad with a live guitar solo performed by the rightful heir of Gondor. There's even a sequin-studded cabaret number courtesy of a Balrog.
