About "Cotton Patch Gospel"

"Cotton Patch Gospel", Harry Chapin's Bluegrass Musical

The bluegrass musical that puts a Southern spin on the greatest story ever told, "Cotton Patch Gospel" features more than two dozen songs written by the late Harry Chapin shortly before his death in 1981. Based on the book by farmer and New Testament scholar Clarence Jordan and set in modern-day Georgia, this progressive musical comedy retells the Gospels of Matthew and John, and includes the story of a young pregnant woman and her husband who're looking for shelter at the Dixie Delight Motor Lodge. Chapin was a famed '70s era folk-rock singer-songwriter whose hits included "Cat's in the Cradle," "Taxi" and "Flowers Are Red."
